Multiple noise complaints from Urbana residents have caused the city council to issue a self-enforcing policy on garbage haulers in the community. The noise from the trucks, such as the dinging sound of the trucks in reverse and the loud hydraulic sound from picking up the garbage, cause residents to wake up.

Chicago developer convicted of bribing Alderman for zoning change

CHICAGO — A millionaire Chicago developer was convicted Thursday of giving an alderman $37,000 worth of painting, doors, windows and air conditioning for his home in exchange for a lucrative zoning change.

Jurors deliberated for less than a day before convicting Calvin Boender, 55, on one count of bribery and two counts each of illegal campaign contributions and obstruction of justice. Boender faces up to 32 years in prison, but he is likely to get a much lesser term under federal sentencing guidelines.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the 1500 block of North Prospect Avenue on Sunday afternoon.

According to the police report, the offender was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.
