Former Eastern and Portland Trail Blazer center Kevin Duckworth died Monday evening in Gleneden Beach, Ore., at the age of 44. Duckworth was in Gleneden Beach to host a free basketball clinic sponsored by the Trail Blazers when he died in the small, coastal town on the Pacific.

Incoming freshman Dennis Roden died Aug. 16 after an all-terrain vehicle he was riding in collided with a police squad car in his hometown of Morris, said Morris Police Chief Brent Dite.

Dite said the ATV, driven by Roden's friend Steffen Durkee, 19, pulled in front of the squad car before colliding into it.

Two girls timidly approached President Daniel J. Bradley's wife at the lemonade stand in front of Condit House Wednesday.

When the first lady asked what year they were in college, one of the girls replied that they were freshmen.

During the first two days of classes, Indiana State had some unusual public speakers on campus.

A group of three traveling evangelical preachers arrived at the fountain in front of the HMSU around noon on Wednesday.

The preachers began by promising fire and brimstone, shouting at any student within earshot about the sins of man and that the consequence was hell.

On a rainy, muggy and all too humid Thursday, thousands of returning students and incoming freshmen descended upon the University and made their way to their respective dorms and rooms.

With their clothes soaked in water from the on and off rain, new students began the process of getting accustomed to their new home.
