Illinois' first Homecoming football game was held Oct. 15, 1910, when the Fighting Illini defeated the University of Chicago, 3-0. And 98 years later, the Orange and Blue hope to have a similarly successful outcome against Big Ten opponent Minnesota.
Although the campus is buzzing with the Homecoming "Feel the 'Nois" campaign, the added attention is not affecting the football team.

Her father coaches a college team, and her uncle, Ted, played for the U.S. National Team in the 1990s and for the MLS Dallas Burn - now FC Dallas. Eck, the only women's soccer player to score a goal so far this season, sat down with Staff Reporter Richard Morse to discuss how she came to Eastern, playing on collegiate level and her favorite place to eat on campus.

But instead of using it as a cheesy motivator, the Fighting Illini football team sees it as a guiding force.

Former Eastern wide receiver Micah Rucker said he had an idea he wouldn't be with the Kansas City Chiefs for long.

Eastern women's soccer head coach Tim Nowak always wanted Sam Balek on his team. He began recruiting the red-shirt freshman defender during her junior year in high school, and although her route to becoming a Panther wasn't a traditional path, he said he's happy to have her on his team.
